Bengaluru: A first year BE (civil) engineering student committed suicide following alleged blackmail by two of his Facebook friends. Marathhalli police are investigating the case.

According to the police, Ramesh (name changed) was very active on social media and befriended two girls on Facebook and he was chatting with them till late night.

However, on Tuesday noon, after returning from the college he ended life. His father, a resident of Kalaburugi alleged that two girls who were his friends on Facebook were blackmailing him for the money over the last few days and the youth was worried about the same.

“He committed suicide by hanging at his paying guest accommodation,” police stated.

“We are trying to find out more details about his Facebook girlfriends. He was allegedly in touch with them over the phone since last few days. We will collect CDR details to continue the investigation,” police said.
