Bengaluru: BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa has hinted that the party would field two former Ministers H. Halappa from Sagar segment and Kumar Bangarappa from Sorab in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Yeddyurappa told reporters that he would hold a meeting with party leaders in Sagar and Sorab segments shortly and would resolve the confusion over candidature. Belur Gopalakrishna, a two-time MLA from Sagar and a strong aspirant for the BJP ticket from this segment, will be provided suitable political opportunities in the future, he added.
Bangarappa’s entry into the BJP has sparked off confusion among party workers. The party leadership is planning to field him from Sorab constituency and shift Halappa, who had won from Sorab earlier, to Sagar constituency. This has triggered discontent among the supporters of Gopalakrishna. Yeddyurappa said it was at his behest that Halappa has commenced campaigning in Sagar segment.
Meanwhile, Gopalakrishna said as he has strived to strengthen the base of the BJP in Sagar, the party should provide him a chance to contest. The BJP leadership had said that candidates for all 224 segments would be selected after conducting a ground-level survey. He expressed confidence that in the survey, party activists and voters would support him. Without taking Halappa’s name, he said that the voters in Sagar would not accept an outsider.
