Bengaluru: The dispute regarding the appointment of the leader of the opposition in the state BJP has once again laid bare the disarray and discontent within the party. Ramesh Jarkiholi and Aravind Bellad have overtly voiced their dissatisfaction. Through a series of tweets, the Congress has mocked the saffron party over the matter.
On Monday, the Congress ridiculed the election of R Ashoka as the leader of the opposition in the assembly, highlighting that the BJP candidate, who not only lost his deposit in Kanakapura but also suffered a resounding defeat, now holds the position of leader of the opposition. In a tweet, the state Congress remarked, “The BJP leaders facing a drought have chosen a fake emperor lacking the knowledge and qualifications necessary for the role of the leader of the opposition.
Congress has accused the BJP of introducing a person like a dry leaf in front of leaders like CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.
If the BJP intends to appoint the leader of the opposition in the state, they are selecting leaders who themselves stand against the concept of opposition. The BJP’s competition for the chief minister’s position is so fierce that no other party has ever seen such a level of contention for the role. Congress has urged BJP leaders to ensure that no weapons, including sticks, are present at their gathering locations. They expressed concern that hospital admissions might surge if conflicts arise.
Six months after the elections concluded and the government was established, the BJP appears to have suddenly realized the need to elect the leader of the opposition. The Congress raised doubts about whether the delay was due to non-transparency.
The rebel BJP leaders have yet to disclose the bidding price for the leader of the opposition position. The Congress party has announced that the first rebel BJP leaders to reveal the information will be rewarded, and confidentiality will be maintained without informing BS Yediyurappa and Santosh groups.
