BJP demands immediate release of calendar for Palike polls

Bengaluru: The BJP was quick on the draw when soon after the Karnataka High?Court quashed a plea filed by the State government seeking more time to conduct the polls, the The State BJP on Monday urged the State Election?Commissioner (SEC) to announce the calendar of events for conducting polls to the BBMP?immediately.

A delegation comprising City legislators met SEC,?P?N?Srinivasachari the SEC.

Speaking to the reporters after the meeting, former minister Suresh Kumar said, “The observations made by the court and imposition of fine on the State government is nothing but humiliation to the government. At least now, the State government should stop indulging in delaying tactics and cooperate with the State Election Commission in conducting polls to the BBMP,” he said.

He said the ruling Congress was apprehensive of facing the polls and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s sudden penchant for going on the City rounds and announcement of slew of new projects was an indication of the party’s fear to face voters.
