Bengaluru: A 38-year-old woman was reportedly robbed by two bike-borne men while in the premises of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Sadashivanagar of the city on March 26. The men stole a sum of Rs 13 lakhs from the woman, identified as Revathi, a resident of Vijayanagar.
As per reports, Revathi, a social worker, was taking the money to a private college in order to arrange a medical seat for a friend’s sister.
When the men snatched the money away from her, Revathi cried out for help, but they fled from the spot immediately. Reportedly, when she tried to call Vinod, the man who asked her to bring the money to the spot, he did not respond. She then filed a complaint with the Sadashivanagar police.
According to the reports, Vinod is an agent with whom Revathi got into contact through her friends. He and his friend Rakesh reportedly assured her that they would get her a seat at the college if she paid them a sum of Rs 13 lakhs. She somehow managed to procure the money by asking friends and pledging her property documents and was on the way to meet Vinod when the incident occurred.
Police now suspect the involvement of Vinod and Rakesh in the robbery as the former was the one who selected the spot where the incident occurred and did not answer Revathi’s calls post the day’s events.
The police have begun an investigation into the matter and are looking at CCTV footage from inside the IISc campus in order to identify the miscreants.
