In recent weeks, Bengaluru, India’s startup capital, has been confronting various challenges, including scorching heat and water shortages. In light of this, a social media user named Rishabh Srivastava took to X (formerly Twitter) to humorously address the soaring temperatures in the city known for its pleasant climate.

Mr. Srivastava, in his tweet, amusingly likened Bengaluru’s weather shift from “chill” to “grill” and humorously remarked that the heat was so intense that he had to seek refuge in an OYO hotel. The multinational hospitality chain, OYO Rooms, seized the opportunity to join the conversation, quipping about the city’s weather and humorously acknowledging their role in providing relief.

Reacting to Mr. Srivastava’s tweet, OYO Rooms reposted it, playfully remarking, “Bangalore, you had one job. But now, we’re doing it,” with even the company’s CEO, Ritesh Agarwal, endorsing their stance by resharing the post.

Meanwhile, amidst Bengaluru’s rising temperatures, a heartwarming video of a man distributing water bottles to traffic police officers gained viral attention on social media. Shared by Shree Ram Bishnoi, a traffic warden with Bangalore City Police, the video highlighted the man’s regular efforts to aid constables in Hebbal amid the sweltering heat.

Bengaluru recently witnessed its highest maximum temperature for March in the past five years, reaching 36.4 degrees Celsius, while Kalaburagi in Karnataka recorded temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius, signaling the onset of heat wave conditions.

In addition to the heat, Bengaluru is also grappling with a severe water crisis, affecting residents, schools, offices, and apartment complexes. The city’s water scarcity is compounded by depleting groundwater levels and drought in the Cauvery basin, with the current water supply meeting only half of the daily requirement of 2,600-2,800 million litres.
