Bengaluru: On the occasion of Global No Pants Subway Ride movement, which is an annual event held on the second sunday of every year, some of the youth too celebrated the day in Bengaluru.

The commuters were surprised to see around 15 people who were commuting with them in Namma Metro on Sunday.

The group was in formal shirts teamed with boxers, the odd pairing  was to surprise people and created positive chaos, said Saurav Arya to the sources. He also said that the event was not meant to promote any cause.

When asked whether organising such events, when cases of crimes and assault on women is increasing in India, he replied by saying the objective was not to offend anyone. Bengaluru is the only city to participate in the event. The rules for the event were tweaked a little instead of commuting in their undergarments, the youth from capital city decided to wear boxers.

Manisha, a consultant took part in the event wearing boxers. “For me it was an expression of freedom. We live in a democracy and we have the right to wear what we want. Of course in our country, a woman’s clothes are associated with her safety, but a woman can wear anything without always necessarily attracting attention”, she asserted.

The ‘No Pants Subway Ride’ was started by Improv Everywhere, a performance art group in New York City, in 2002. Since then, it has been catching up with the rest of the world.
