Bengaluru: The police investigating the voter data theft case detained one of the Directors of Chilume NGO, who is accused of tampering with voter data, on the evening of Saturday November 19. The wives of Chilume Directors were also questioned by the police for more than 20 hours for allegedly helping their husbands in destroying evidence.
The Director, Kempegowda, was reportedly taken for questioning late on Saturday night on the outskirts of the City, informed the police. Shruthi, the wife of Kempegowda, and Aishwarya, the spouse of another accused Ravikumar, were taken in for questioning on Friday night and questioned until Saturday night.
After receiving notices to appear for interrogation on Sunday, both women were released. The police are searching for Ravikumar.
Chilume Trust has been charged with tampering with voter information after being engaged by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to conduct the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) exercise. The BBMP had made a complaint at the police stations in Kadugodi and Halasuru Gate.
According to sources, the two accused, Dharmesh and Renuka Prasad were remanded in police custody for eight days on Saturday by the 37th ACMM Court in the City. BBMP Special Commissioner (Administration) S. Rangappa said that another accused, Lokesh, was evading arrest as the raids were taking place.
