Bengaluru: A report released by the Greenpeace Organisation reveals that air pollution is more in Bengaluru, Tumkur, Davanagere, Bidar and Raichur cities and the dust particles with great density (Particular Matter or the PM) which enter the lungs can cause serious health complications. Hubballi, Dharwad, Kolar, Kalaburagi, and Belagavi are next in the top 10 list of cities of the state.
Out of 18 cities, not even one city comes under safety limit of the World Health Organisation (20 micrograms for each cubic metre ) and 10 cities have crossed the safety limit of Central Pollution Control Board (60 micrograms for each cubic metre ), a report from the government shows.
The report identified New Delhi as the most air-polluted city with a PM-10 limit of 290 micrograms. Faridabad, Bhivandi, Patna follow the capital. Compared to the North Indian cities the condition of the South Indian cities is better. “There is no emergency solution for this. According to the international standards, long-term plans should be charted out,” the report said.
Interestingly, Dehradun, which was known as the best place for retired life is also on the list.
