Bengaluru: Two engineers have been suspended by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday September 26 for asphalting New BEL Road without following the required specifications. The action was made as a result of the traffic police pointing out the poor roadwork at the inter-departmental coordination committee meeting last month.
Assistant Executive Engineer M. C. Krishne Gowda and Vishakanta Murthy of the Road Infrastructure Department are the suspended officers (West Division).
B. S. Prahlad, Chief Engineer of the BBMP’s Road Infrastructure Department, also found that the concerned officers did not take the directions seriously despite the traffic police raising concerns, and he ordered the suspension.
During the inspection, engineers were instructed to desilt the existing shoulder drains and build new ones with steel box gratings before asphalting New BEL Road. However, none of these instructions was followed.
