Bengaluru rape case: Rapist claims he was in love with victim

Bengaluru: Ravi, the accused in the recent bus rape case has reportedly requested the police during interrogation to get him married to the girl whom he raped, citing that he was madly in love with her.
Bengaluru rape case: Accused sent to judicial custody-1The police sources said, “He claims that he had seen the girl about an year ago and was in love with her since then. He has said that he had proposed to marry her but she turned down his request. It is then that he raped her in the bus. During the questioning, he requested the officials several times to marry him to the victim.”

The victim, however denied the rapist’s claims and told the police that only two days before the incident had she seen his face when she got into the same mini-bus.

The 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the driver in a moving bus in broad daylight on Thursday, November 5, at Sulibele in Hosakote in Bengaluru. The girl was reportedly alone in the bus at the time of the sexual assault. The driver had asked the cleaner to take over the wheel and allegedly raped her.

The accused driver Ravi (26) and cleaner Manjunath (23) were nabbed by the police on the same day and were booked under IPC section 376.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, while the accused, Ravi and Manjunath, are lodged at Parappana Agrahara Central jail.
