Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Pinkathon will be held on Sunday at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. The pinkathon was the first run to start the concept of green stations with reusable cups at refill points in Bengaluru in 2015.

This year, taking this forward, volunteers from Bangalore Eco Team (BET) have joined hands with pinkathon organisers towards better waste reduction and management. Some members of BET met with pinkathon ambassador Milind Soman, and the team discussed ways to create awareness on reducing the waste generated at the run, besides managing the unavoidable waste responsibly, thereby sending minimum waste to landfills.

According to a press release, Hasirudala has been engaged for waste management. There will be colour coded and labelled bins for proper waste segregation as per ‘2bin1bag’ guidelines. All flex banners used at the venue will be given to a non-governmental organisation, which will make bags out of them, while the multi-layered packs will be given to Joy at Work, an NGO that upcycles them into bags and other utility items. The pinkathon team has indicated its inclination to go for eco-friendly material for banners at the next run, apart from providing options to runners at the time of registration for hot food in reusable plates.

Towards reducing paper cups (all which have plastic lining), green stations will have reusable glasses for water and energy drinks. Runners have also been requested to carry their own bottles, if possible, and use the refill stations that are planned along the run route.
