Bengaluru: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a man at Bengaluru Central Railway Station with 16 kg of heroin worth at $112 crore on the international market on Friday August 5.
According to DRI officials, the suspect had drugs hidden within a false cavity inside his suitcase.
The man, who had arrived in Bengaluru from Addis Abeba in Ethiopia, was arrested by DRI officials as he boarded a train to Delhi, read the statement.
The officials said the man managed to elude inspection and customs when he arrived from Ethiopia at Bengaluru airport.
According to the officials, the suspect, a 35-year-old Tamil Nadu man, used to shift base between the Karnataka and Kerala borders. He had modified his suitcase to add a false cavity for smuggling. Two 8-kg pouches containing the drug were hidden inside his suitcase.
The drug was smuggled in illegally from Ethiopia and he was going to Delhi to distribute it there, informed officials.
