Bengaluru: A 61-year-old man, who was caught on camera allegedly groping women inside a Bengaluru mall, has surrendered to authorities. The accused, identified as Ashwath Narayan, worked as a headmaster at Sri Virabhadra High School in Dasarahalli.
The incident gained widespread attention and sparked outrage on social media after a video of the man’s alleged misconduct inside the mall circulated. Netizens called for his arrest and justice for the victims. Responding to the public outcry, the Bengaluru police initiated an investigation.
A senior police official revealed that they had tracked down the accused’s residence through the video and discovered that he had fled the city. The accused, a retired headmaster who left his position eight months ago, had locked his house, and authorities were actively trying to locate him. However, on the same evening, the accused surrendered before an Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate. He is a resident of Basaveshwara Nagar.
The incident captured in the circulated video showed the man intentionally moving toward a woman and attempting to force himself on her, all while surrounded by other shoppers inside the mall. Afterward, he stepped away from the woman. The entire incident was recorded on camera and subsequently shared on Instagram.
Following the incident, a mall employee filed a case at the Magadi police station. The police registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The surrender of the accused is a significant development in the case, and legal proceedings are expected to follow as the investigation continues.
