Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Friday July 15 summoned the Executive Engineers of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to appear before it on July 20 in response to the encroachment of lakes in the City.

The court was hearing a petition regarding encroachment in Subramanyapura, Begur, and Puttenahalli lakes.

The court ordered the concerned EEs to appear in court and submit documents outlining the deadline by which the encroachments should be removed since it was not satisfied with the measures undertaken and the civic agency’s counsel’s submission.

The BBMP was criticised by a division of the High Court headed by Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe, who claimed that only writing letters while seated in the BBMP office was not enough to get rid of encroachments.

As the court’s order to remove encroachments from the property from June 2 was not followed, the civic agency was criticised by the court on Friday.
