Bengaluru: The Deputy Commissioners should help the people through timely decisions, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and suggested that one should act with punctuality, resilience and a sense of urgency.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting of Deputy Commissioners at the Conference Hall of Vidhana Soudha here on Monday October 17. For an IAS officer, working as Deputy Commissioner is a very important opportunity. What matters is how you leave a footprint in the District. Now a lot of officers see only the power part of the Deputy Commissioner’s post. The responsibility of that post and the impact of administration are not taken into account. But to rule is different and to govern is different, CM noted and asked them to work with this in mind.

He said that “You are part of the administration. You also have more power. The decisions you take are very important in governance,” he said. If you don’t want to do anything, you get 101 reasons. One reason is enough to do a good deed. Therefore, good governance should be given by taking timely decisions. If there are any issues, seek the guidance of senior officials immediately, he advised.

In the meeting, he insisted all Deputy Commissioners to freely share their experiences. The Chief Minister said that the Government would then be able to take appropriate steps.
There are Government orders on the implementation of the budget. Steps should be taken for their implementation at the grassroots level and the target should be achieved by the end of the year, he added.
