Bengaluru: BBMP seeks grant from Government for paying contractors

Bengaluru: As of now, the BBMP’s financial situation has improved. All the debts taken by mortgaging the assets have been repaid. However, a letter has been written by the BBMP seeking grant from the State Government for payment of the bill to pay contractors who have completed the work.

The letter states, Works worth more than Rs. 5,000 Crore are currently in progress in BBMP limits. In addition to this, the amount of pending bills is Rs. 3,000 Crore and the amount of further works to be taken up is Rs. 5,000 Crore. The BBMP has a total liability of over Rs. 13,000 Crore. Of the ongoing works as many as 90% works will be taken up with State Government funds. The remaining works have to be paid by the BBMP in revenue. Similarly, the State Government has to pay for the bills for the works that have already been completed. Thus, Rs. 750 crore has been spent to pay the bills to the contractors, letter added.
