Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) will develop a park and construct a swimming pool at Hennur quarry in east Bengaluru, according to Minister for Bengaluru Development K J George.

Minister George, during a visit to inspect the progress of developmental works in and around Hennur, held a meeting with the BDA officials on the development of a park and construct a swimming pool at the stone quarry that spreads to 16 acres. “I have advised the BDA officials to prepare the proposal for a park and swimming pool. Measures will be taken to get the 16 acres of land from District Administration for the development of a park and construction of swimming pool,’’ Minister George said.

On the delay in completing the construction of flyover at Hennur, the minister said the delay in land acquisition was the main reason for the delay in completing the construction work. The ministers assured the property owners who are demanding compensation of Rs 15,000 per sq ft of land to be acquired for the construction of the flyover.

The BDA has taken up the construction of the flyover in 2009. The BDA has given the contract to Nagarajuna Construction Company to construct the flyover. “Anjaneya temple on this stretch should be relocated to widen the road for the construction of the flyover. The delay in relocating the temple has become a hurdle in completing the construction of the flyover. I have advised the authorities concerned to complete the work as early as possible,’’ the minister said.

On opposition to developmental works, the minister said there are some people who oppose the developmental works taken up by the urban development department. “Let them construct the roads as per their whims and fancies when they come to power. There are 1.20 crore people in the city. There are 65 lakh vehicles in the city. Tunnel roads are must to reduce the density of vehicles on the city roads. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been working hard to improve the infrastructure in the city. I am disappointed with Bengaluru getting 210th rank in the survey conducted by the Swachh Bharat Survekshan 2017,’’ the minister said.
