Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) removed an illegal hoarding featuring Nikhil Kumar, actor and son of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

The hoarding of the film, ‘Seetharama Kalyana’, which stars Nikhil Kumar, was put up on the footpath in front of Urvashi Theatre in Sudhamanagar Ward, in the city on Thursday, January 24 morning. A complaint was lodged by G R Mohan, an advocate who is fighting the case against illegal hoardings in the High Court, following which the BBMP removed the hoarding.

The hoarding which displayed a still from the film showing Nikhil also had photos of Kumaraswamy and his wife MLA Anitha Kumaraswamy. The hoarding had the name ‘Nikhil Kumar Fans Club Association’ displayed on it.

Mohan captured a photograph of the hoarding and sent it to the BBMP advocate V Sreenidhi. He also posted it to the Whatsapp helpline number of BBMP. “In a short time, I received not only an acknowledgement message from the helpline number but also photographs of the civic agency’s workers removing the illegal hoarding. I was also informed that a complaint has been registered,” he said.

The HC had taken exception to the BBMP being lethargic in stopping new illegal hoardings coming up in the city. The BBMP had promised not to allow any new hoardings in the city. “Today, at least in this case, it lived up to its promise. The hoarding was not only encroaching on to the footpath but was also dangerously close to the overhead power lines,” Mohan said.

Criminal cases have been registered against hundreds of people who put up illegal hoardings on city roads, as directed by the High Court.
