Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) JDS leader Nethra Narayan has alleged that the corporation has misused Rs.154.98 crores of fund released by the Union government under Swacch Bharat scheme.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, she said that the funds are meant for the construction of public toilet and related borewell work. But, here it is used for surfacing roads, for playground construction, for drainage, to drill borewells, for the white wash, development of Raja canal, for lighting purposes and to construct school rooms. Job codes have been given and money has been transferred. Around Rs.110 crores of the transaction are over.
A separate title has been given for the completed projects and grants are being collected claiming that they are in progress. The Chief Financial Officer, Executive Engineer, Assistant Executive Engineer and Chief Accounting Officer played a major role in this, she claimed and said that she had raised the issue in the council as well and demanded a CBI inquiry.
Answering the question, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad said the Swaccha Bharath Yojana fund can be used for individual, community and public toilet works and also to drill borewells. “Seven wastage processing units have been established used state fund of Rs. 440 crores. For this, Central government would give 20% aid as per our proposal. Under the project, Rs. 88 crore has been used for other purposes,” he clarified.
