Bengaluru: In a bid to ensure speedy redressal of civic grievances, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched an app called ‘Fix My Street’. The app, which was rolled out on Monday, December 11, allows the user to register complaints under different categories, including potholes, garbage, street lights and other civic issues.

While problems that can be resolved immediately have to be fixed within 24 hours, issues such as fixing potholes will be given a week’s time.

Mayor R Sampath Raj, who launched the much-hyped ‘Fix My Street’ app claimed that a complaint through the app, about any civic problem, will be accompanied by a picture, a geotagged location and other details.

Once registered, the complainant will get an SMS alert and the engineer concerned will be intimated about the issue flagged.

Based on the location of the issue, the BBMP officials at the ward level will get a notification. Once they have fixed the problems, the BBMP officials can take a related picture and send it to the complainant.

According to the Mayor, the BBMP officials have been given a strict timeline within which a problem needs to be fixed. One day for uncleared garbage, two days for fixing streetlights, one week for filling up potholes.

The BBMP Commissioner said that the BBMP officials must have a legitimate reason if there is any delay. “If they don’t have a legitimate reason, action will be taken against them for the delay in fixing the problem,’’ the BBMP Commissioner said.

The residents of Bengaluru can also complain about issues concerning the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom), and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). The BBMP officials will transfer the complaints to the departments concerned.
