Bengaluru: The state urban development department has handed over the BBMP footpath scam case to the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for investigation. An order in this regard was issued based on the directions of Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

According to sources in the BBMP, in the financial years 2016-17 and 2017-18, the BBMP had taken up footpath up-gradation works at an estimated cost of Rs.119 crores. It was claimed that 1,400 kilometres of the footpath was upgraded with this amount. But later, BJP leader N R Ramesh alleged that 20% of the works were not completed.

After verification, it was confirmed that the allegations are true. Based on these findings, the urban development department has now handed over the case to the ACB.

“In October of 2019, the CM had directed the BBMP to hand over the case to the ACB. Based on this, a primary investigation was carried at the BBMP level, where it was found that the allegations are prima facie true. So now, the CM’s directions have been implemented,” the sources added.
