Bengaluru: In a decision which is expected to spread awareness even further, the BBMP has decided to be a role model in waste segregation and compost production. In a first-of-its-kind decision, the BBMP has directed all its officers and staff to segregate waste at the source and prepare compost using wet waste. The compost will be used in the BBMP’s gardens.

BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad issued a direction in this regard to all the staff and officers.

Prasad directed the officers to keep a compost bin in their houses and prepare compost using coco peat. He also directed them to use the compost in the BBMP’s gardens.

He also prohibited the BBMP officers and staff from using plastic and directed the authorities to furnish a report in this regard by July 31.

“At my residence, I have not given waste to the pourakarmikas for the last three years. I prepare compost at my residence,” he informed.
