Bengaluru: The extent of disregard for COVID19 spread prevention rules laid down by the State Government and the Bruhan Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP ) can be gauged from the fact that on Sunday alone, BBMP marshals collected Rs.5.02 lakhs from 2,511 persons for violations of the safety guidelines.
With the idea of curbing the spread of COVID 19, the BBMP made wearing masks and maintaining social distance mandatory in public places. The marshals are empowered to collect Rs.200 per violation.
Following the complaints that the public is not following the guidelines properly, on Sunday, the marshals intensified their enforcement drive. This resulted in a huge fines collection.
As expected, the public are happy with the BBMP drive. However, they want stringent punishment for the violation. “It is great that BBMP has finally woken up. Masks and social distancing only can save the city. Now it is the time for tougher action,” said Lakshmi, a software engineer from the Malleshwaram.
