Nearly two years after Mahadevapura’s tech corridor experienced severe flooding, BBMP has greenlit 47 projects worth Rs 50 crore aimed at improving roads and drainage systems in the area to avert future flooding incidents.

Background

In September 2022, heavy rains caused extensive flooding in Mahadevapura, affecting numerous residential complexes, villas, independent houses, and roads, necessitating the evacuation of many residents.

Action Plan Delay

BBMP swiftly formulated an action plan post-flooding, slated to commence in 2023. However, the plan was delayed due to the state assembly elections. Further postponement occurred when the state government mandated that civic works could only proceed after its explicit approval, issued in July 2023.

Project Approval and Execution

Initially allocated Rs 60 crore for the initiative, BBMP eventually settled on Rs 50 crore. Following administrative approval on March 15, the Palike is set to issue work orders imminently. The flood-control measures are slated for completion within six months.

Project Scope

The allocated funds will primarily target the development and enhancement of roads, drains, and culverts in flood-affected regions such as Kadugodi, Varthur, Hoodi, Doddanekkundi, AECS Layout, Whitefield, Hagadur, Munnekollal, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Doddakannelli, and Garudachar Palya. Key components of the plan include the construction of RCC retaining walls, culverts, and asphalt roads.

The approved initiatives signify a concerted effort by BBMP to mitigate the risk of flooding and enhance the overall infrastructure resilience in Mahadevapura’s tech corridor.
