Bengaluru: A BBM student was allegedly sexually harrassed at a wine shop by an insurance agent. The accused has been taken into custody by the Yelahanka New Town police.

The accused is identified as Raja, a resident of Fifth Stage in Yelahanka New Town.

According to police sources, the degreee student, who hails from Delhi had gone to New Golden Amulya MRP wine outlet near Mother Dairy Circle on Sunday around 1.30 pm. She was accompanied by her female friend and the duo had gone there to buy alcohol.

“The complainant has accused that Raja, who was standing next to her and purchasing alcohol, touched her inappropriately while leaving the shop. She reportedly held him by collar objecting to his act and Raja also held her by hand and there was a heated argument between them. Based on her complaint, Raja has been picked up for questioning and he claimed that the allegations were baseless as he did not touch her intentionally,” the police said.

The police said, “the place where the alleged incident took place was very narrow, about two-and-a-half feet wide, and there was a possibility that Raja might have brushed against the girl by accident. We will question the staff of the wine shop and other people before coming to any conclusion,” the police said.

Yelahanka New Town police have registered a case under section 354A (sexual harassment) of the IPC. Further investigations are on.
