Bangalore: An electrician sustained minor injuries after a security guards double-barrel gun misfired at a nationalised bank in Rajajinagar Industrial Estate on Monday morning. The police arrested the security guard.
The guard, L. Sampath Raj (58), is a resident of Halasur. An ex-serviceman, he was working with State Bank of India for the last eight years. The injured, Chandru, 35, a resident of K.P. Agrahara, was treated at a private hospital.
The police said Raj was accompanying the van ferrying cash to the SBI branch the industrial estate. After the transaction, the van left the bank premises around 11.15 am. Raj tried to board the van in a hurry and his gun went off. The bullet struck the ground, while the pellets struck the left thigh of Chandru, who was entering the bank.
“Chandru was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital by the public. He had sustained minor injuries and was discharged after the treatment,” the police said. Senior police officers rushed to the spot.
The security guard was arrested and his weapon seized. He was booked under various sections of the Arms Act and the IPC. The police also recorded the statements of the injured, other occupants of the van, and other eyewitnesses.
Magadi Road police have registered a case and are investigating.
