Demand for rainwater gathering systems and well diggers has increased over the last two months due to the summer water crisis that prompted locals and non-governmental organizations to take action.

Raghupathi, a professional well digger who also installs rainwater collecting systems in homes, acknowledged that inquiries started coming in from April.

“My team and I started working on 150 projects in April, and we have more in the works,” he stated. “Last month alone, I received more than 400 calls to install RWH systems, recharge pits, or rejuvenate wells.” Locals who spoke with DH stated that people’s understanding of conservation has increased due to the water problem.

Kempanna, another well-digger, stated that even those who are space-constrained are searching for different ways to install RWH equipment. He stated, “Even tiny homes with plots smaller than 1,000 square feet are contacting us to inquire about the implementation of rainwater harvesting systems.”

Even while questions have been coming in from all throughout the city, Raghupathi noted that the number of inquiries from the suburbs is very high. He said, “We are even receiving calls from villages outside of Bengaluru that are under different panchayat boundaries.” two-pronged assault NGOs are launching a two-pronged assault to address Bengaluru’s water crisis: they are rebuilding abandoned open wells to collect monsoon rainfall and creating recharge pits to raise groundwater levels, which has increased demand for labor.

In an effort to raise the groundwater levels in the city, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) recently excavated 1,000 recharge pits.

Additionally, the water board is pushing more people to install RWH equipment by requesting in a public notice that those who disobeyed its directives now comply. According to a recent investigation, 39,000 families have been penalized for failing to install RWH systems, even though it was required.

BWSSB Chairman Ramprasat Manohar V declared, “We will start serving them fresh notices from next week.” In addition, the BWSSB is looking at 74 community rainwater harvesting proposals, which it may approve in the event that funding becomes available.
