Bangalore : The Bangalore University has all of a sudden increased the fee for  courses at the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVEC) affiliated to it. The fee has been increased to Rs 34,090, in turn passing on the financial burden on the students.

If the state government has been claiming that there has been no hike in educational fee since two years, the UVEC has silently doubled its fee. As per rules, no fee can be hiked without the nod of the government. Still the  Bangalore University Syndicate meet held on June 26 has approved the fee hike. It is learnt, the fee has been increased by Rs 16000 in the name of College Betterment Fee without any reason, that too when the College management board has raised its objection to the same.

The University orders regarding the fee hike is out on July 28 and the fee revision is applicable to students who were admitted  from the year 2011-12.
