Bengaluru: The Election Commission of India (EC) will be holding a mass registration drive on April 8 called ‘Minchina Nondani’.
The drive to be held across all polling booths is aimed at adding more voters in the electoral rolls, especially those who are physically challenged, women, and those belonging to primitive tribes, Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar told presspersons here on Monday. According to him, polling booth-level officers will also be addressing EPIC-related grievances.
He said there are 4.96 crore voters in the State according to the summary electoral rolls that were finalised on February 28. “From March 1, 1.74 lakh fresh applications have been made from those wishing to enroll in the voters’ rolls. About 81,000 are deletion applications and about 1,500 are for change of address,” he said.
The Chief Electoral Officer urged the voters to check their details on the Election Commission website and seek changes if needed. Over the next week, about 3.6 lakh EPICs will be distributed to voters, he added.
Meanwhile, a release from the CEO’s office said that over the past 24 hours, several cases of violation of model code of conduct have been registered. They include one case for using loudspeakers beyond the stipulated time; seven cases of attempting to induce voters; and three cases of holding election-related meetings without permission.
Since the model code of conduct came into force, 16 cases have been registered for attempting to induce voters. Over the last 24 hours, 550 saris, Rs. 8.5 lakh in cash, 96 cookers, 38 sewing machines and 5 vehicles have been seized.
