Bangalore: Ravi Patil and his pregnant wife haled a taxi from the Kempegowda International Airport at around 4 am and proceeded to their home in Vijaynagar. The Cab driver of the cab, Shivraj was considerate and drove slowly.
On reaching, Ravi paid the fare unloaded his luggage of around 50 kilos and released the cab. As they trudged up the flight of stairs, Ravi realized he had left his backpack in the cab. The Back pack contained their passports, ID proof, gold and diamond jewelry, and a laptop and camera and Ravi was highly disturbed. He ran down the flight of stairs again seeking Shivraj, who had by then rushed to pick up another customer.
Unfortunately he had not noted down the cab driver’s name, the vehicle number, or the driver’s mobile number. Shivraj was nowhere to be found. He then proceeded to the to the Chandra layout police station. The cops reproached him for his carelessness but promptly took down details of the incident.
Here the case took an interesting and many would say, surprising turn. As he was preparing to file te complaint, his wife telephoned him and told him that the driver had come back and handed over the backpack in an as is, where is condition.
“This incident has taught me a tough lesson; at the same time it has reinforced my belief that not all are bad in namma Bengaluru. We do have good Samaritans like Shivaraj. Thanks Shivaraj, and thanks Bangalore police,” Patil said in a statement online.
Shivaraj told a Bangalore daily that he dropped off the couple at their home around 5 am. “I took the fare and left quickly because I had another customer waiting to be picked up. Five minutes into the drive, I went over a speed breaker and heard the thud of something falling down. I turned around and saw that it was one of the couple’s bags so I rushed back and returned the bag to them. I was just doing my duty.”
