Amid covid scare, BBMP hit by promotion controversy

Bengaluru: A city resident approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) alleging that an engineer has been given promotion twice in a week by the BBMP joint commissioner. The petitioner also approached Additional Chief Secretary urban development department Rakesh Singh in this regard.

N Lokesh, the petitioner has alleged that Uday Chougale, an assistant engineer in the waste management division of the BBMP has been given two promotions – one as an in-charge assistant executive engineer and the next as an executive engineer – in a span of a week. He was promoted first on April 1 and next on April 8 by the joint commissioner, BBMP.

In his petition, Lokesh alleged that in the BBMP engineer’s seniority list, Chougale’s name appears in the 40th place. He urged the ACB and the urban development department authorities to launch investigations into why he was given two promotions in a hurry and into the works taken up under his supervision.
