Bangalore: Housing Minister Ambarish came under fire from opposition members in the State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday June 24 over the issue of sanctioning more houses under Vajpayee Housing Scheme to constituencies represented by ruling party MLAs. Opposition members also staged a dharna in the well of the House.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Opposition leader Jagadish Shettar alleged that an additional 46 houses has been sanctioned to 86 constituencies having Congress MLAs. He wanted to know the reason for the biased approach. Several other BJP as well as JD(S) members backed Shettar.
Responding to the allegations, Ambarish questioned what was wrong in sanctioning additional houses to constituencies which have elected the party members. He also defended his stance stating sanctioning of a minimum quantity of additional houses to constituencies represented by Congress MLAs cannot be considered wrong when the government has constructed 3.17 lakh houses across the state.
This reply of Ambarish further infuriated the opposition party members who staged a dharna in the well of the House and shouted slogans against Ambarish. This move of them was resented by Congress MLAs.
BJP MLA Sunil Kumar even mocked at Ambarish stating he was delivering filmy style dialogues and was behaving in an irresponsible way.
As pandemonium continued, Speaker Kagodu Timmappa adjourned the meeting for some time.
