Bangalore, Mar 12: A diploma student of Acharya Polytechnic Institute of Bangalore who was said to be a victim of ragging, has died at the Medical Trust Hospital at Kochi on Monday, March 10, almost one and a half months after he was allegedly brutally assaulted by his seniors. It is learnt, the incident took place on January 27.

The victim Ahab Ibrahim (21), was a second year student who was pursuing diploma in Architecture, had sustained head injuries and is reportedly in coma for two weeks in the hospital as he had suffered from intra-cranial haemorrhage. He was found unconscious in the toilet of the hostel room on January 27.

His family has lodged a complaint with Peenya police and a case of unnatural death has been registered. The police have also ordered a probe by ACP (Yeshwanthpur) into the case.

His family says Ahab was attacked for allegedly complaining to the college management against ragging by some students in September last year. It is learnt, all the six accused students are from Kerala, are absconding.

However. C B M Bhushan, Director, Acharya Institutes, said Ahab was earlier detained for one year owing to shortage of attendance. He said that institute came to know about the incident only when it enquired about his absence in the class and also his not being in the hostel.
