Bengaluru: A native of Odisha lost his life in an alleged case of lockup death, that was reported in the city on March 19, Saturday evening.
The victim is Mahendra(40). It is said that Mahendra was taken into custody by Jeevan Bima Nagar police station on charges of theft two days ago.
While the police claim that he died of health complications, a sense of suspicion surrounds his death.
City police Commissioner N S Megharik visited the police station and sought report on the issue.
DIG Sonia Narang speaking to media persons after visiting Bowring hospital, said, “The case has been handed over to the CID.”
Meanwhile, Additional Commissioner of Police (East) P Harishekaran has suspended Inspector Hitendra, sub-inspector Rajashekar, Head constable Aziz Ahmed, constables Siddappa, Mohan Ram, Keshav of Jeevan Bima Nagar police station.
The body of the deceased has been sent to Victoria hospital for post mortem.
