Bengaluru: Laxmi Ravindra Hebbalkar has been appointed as the president of State women’s wing by the All India Congress Committee here on Monday in New Delhi.

Hebbalkar has replaced Manjula Naidu as the chief of women’s wing. Naidu was appointed as the president in 2010.

Hebbalkar is a native of Belagavi who holds a post-graduate degree from Mysore university.

She is the president of Belagavi district rural Congress committee and also the first woman to become the president of the Belagavi DCC unit. She is also a active member of AICC.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections she lost to the BJP candidate and failed to get elected to Lok Sabha or State Assembly.

Though the tenure of the president is five years, the services can be terminated any time, sources in the Congress said. Earlier, the tenure used to be three years.
