Bengaluru: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) raided the Bommanahalli zonal office of the BBMP and unearthed Rs.550 crores Poura Karmika Provident Fund scam.
According to the sources in the ACB, the raid is also pertaining to another Rs.384 crores scam of ESI contribution scheme of the BBMP.
“The raid has been carried out based on a complaint lodged by the Poura Kamikas in March 2017. The state government ordered for ACB investigation in October 2017. The total amount involved in the scam is Rs.934 crores,” informed ACB sources.
“A total of 46 officers including seven joint commissioners, seven supervising engineers, two executive engineers, 26 assistant executive engineers have been issued notices with regard to this scam. But they didn’t reply. That is the reason why the raid was carried out,” informed sources.
“Salary, PF, and ESI funds were drawn in the name of 19,000 poura kamikas. But in reality, only 12,400 poura kamikas were working. The ACB is trying to dig the modus operandi of this scam,” added sources.
According to the BBMP sources, it is one of the biggest scams that hit the BBMP in recent years. “Several heads are expected to roll,” informed a senior officer.
