Bengaluru: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) has issued summons to former chief minister and BJP state president B.S. Yeddyurappa to appear personally before it on August 24.

On August 17, the ACB has issued summons to Yeddyurappa to appear before it on August 19 but he has sought 10 days’ time to appear before the ACB in connection with the case probing the illegal denotification of land acquired for the Dr. K. Shivaram Karanth Layout in north Bengaluru.

He has been accused of dropping 257 acres from the preliminary notification of the layout bypassing the denotified committee approval, allegedly misusing his official position and ignoring the adverse reports submitted by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).

The cases were registered following a complaint filed by a member of the Jana Samanya Vedike, a city-based social organisation. Apart from Yeddyurappa, the ACB has also named former Additional Chief Secretary Subir Hari Singh, Urban Development Department Deputy Secretary Basavaraju, Under Secretary Premachandra, BDA’s Special Land Acquisition Officer H. Basavarajendra and Deputy Commissioner Land Acquisition Gaurishankar.

Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa has approached the High Court seeking an interim stay against the first information reports (FIRs) filed against him by the ACB. The High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the ACB and the state government. The court has adjourned the hearing of Yeddyuappa’s plea to Wednesday.

Yeddyurappa’s advocate has argued in the court stating that denotification of the land did not happen. “Two FIRs were registered on the denotification of the land. The denotification of the land has not happened at all,’’ the advocate said.

A meeting was held at Yddyurappa’s Dollars Colony residence to discuss about the summons issued to him by the ACB officials. BJP leaders V. Somanna, Lakshman Savadi and other leaders have attended the meeting. “We are here to extend our moral support to Yeddyurappa. We have no other agenda than this,’’ Somanna said.

According to reliable sources, BJP national president Amit Shah has enquired Yeddyurappa over the phone from Delhi about the summons issued by the ACB.

The sources said the BJP national president has advised Yeddyurappa not to issue any statement till he appears before the ACB. The sources said Shah has also advised him to maintain a safe distance from the media persons.
