Bengaluru: Vice-President of India Venkaiah Naidu lauded the South Indians for taking the glory of their state to the country and the world.

Addressing the gathering at the “NAAC Silver Jubilee Celebrations”, organized by the General Council and Executive of NAAC at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, he said, “I am proud to know that the top intellects and business tycoons are mostly from the southern part of the country.”

Throwing light on fitness he said, “It is essential that physical education is given top priority in schools. Marks should be allotted for physical education. The choice of food and lifestyle is left to you. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched ‘Fit India Movement’, keeping in mind the importance of being physically and mentally fit.”

“The food we eat should be of good quality and healthy. Karnataka is known for bisibelebath, ragi mudde. Ragi mudde with nati koli makes a fantastic combination. Isn’t it?” he added.

He then recalled the times he visited Bengaluru and ate dosa at Hotel Janardhan of the city.

“When I used to visit Bengaluru earlier, Hotel Janardhan’s dosa was a must-have. Those who wanted to meet me could easily do so at eight in the morning, without having to make an appointment. Today also, I made it a point to bring Hotel Janardhan’s dosa to the Raj Bhavan and savour it,” he said.

He then gave a call to everyone to respect all religions, vernacular and mainstream languages and not to forget to speak in their mother tongue.

“One doesn’t become a patriot only by shouting ‘Bharath Mata Ki Jai’. They become true patriots when they also respect all religions and languages,” he said.

Vice-President Naidu also released a book “NAAC Compendium 2019”, on the occasion.

Later, he has also paid his visit to Vidyapeetha in the city received a blessing from the junior Pontiff of Sri Pejawar Adhokshaja Mutt, Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji and prayed at the ‘Brindavana’ of late senior Pontiff of Pejawar Mutt, Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji located within the Vidaypeetha premises.
