Bengaluru: Stray dogs are an unwanted lot. But some are lucky. Bengaluru has a what many call a ‘dog menace’ and private agencies are contracted to manage it.

A stray dog which had an injury on its leg, has now found a home all the way in Melbourne, Australia. He was  befriended by a visiting Australian, who took him home when he left the city. The canine, christened Boris, is now spreading cheer among the people in the land down under.

Chris Doig, the Australian who took Boris home, said he had come across the canine two-and-a-half years ago when he was in Bengaluru working as a volunteer for Janaagraha. He used to stay in Lingarajapuram, and that is where he came across the “traumatised” stray dog with a broken limb.

Chris and his local friends Anitha and Sunitha Korah looked after the dog, taking pity on it.  However soon a time came for Chris to leave and return to his homeland. By then he had become emotionally attached to the Dog.  He decided to take Boris with him. However this was not easy. He had to meet  Australian regulations that required the animal to get vaccinated for rabies, among other diseases, and that had to be done in specific countries.  He now says  his mother, who has no grandchildren, treats Boris like a ‘grand dog’, and Boris is the right royal hero with all the attention he is getting.
