Bengaluru: Congress Legislature Party leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, January 3, for not fulfilling his promises to the people of the country.
Speaking to the media, he said that the PM has only lied to the people and has left 90 per cent of his promises unfulfilled. “He (PM Modi) had promised that in 2020, the economy would double, but only the people’s troubles have doubled,” he said.
It can be noted that the Prime Minister is in Karnataka on a two-day visit that began on January 2.
Lashing out at the PM for his nonchalant approach to the devastation suffered by the state during the deluge in 2019, Siddaramaiah said, “In August, when there were severe floods in 23 districts of the state, he (PM Modi) didn’t visit. The Prime Minister tweets about small issues, but at the time of the floods, he did not make even a single tweet. When Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister, he did an aerial survey of the state and announced a relief of Rs 1500 crores on the spot. This time, the damage caused by the floods was estimated to be over Rs 1 lakh crores.”
“When the Prime Minister came to the state to witness the Chandrayaan-2 landing, he did not make time for the Chief Minister, other ministers or the Opposition to discuss the floods,” the Congress leader added.
Speaking about his remark about calling Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa “weak”, Siddaramaiah said, “The Chief Minister and ministers should have spoken to the Prime Minister about the relief funds. The Central Government should have declared the floods a National Disaster. That is why I called BSY weak.”
“The Prime Minister said that if the BJP is in power in the Centre and the state, the doors of fortune of the state will be opened. The people trusted him and gave him 25 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Now, he doesn’t even open the doors of his house to his own party leaders,” Siddaramaiah mocked.
Commenting on PM Modi’s statements against the Congress party during a rally in Tumakuru on Thursday, Siddaramaiah asked, “We admit that Pakistan is an evil country, but what are you (PM Modi) doing about minorities in our country? You are bringing a law against the minorities. Is that right?”
It can be recalled that, during his visit to Tumakuru, the Prime Minister had lashed out at the Congress for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
