Bengaluru: Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has admitted that, even after a number of interventions including farm loan waiver scheme, incidents of farmer suicide have not stopped in the state. According to the data released by him in Bengaluru, since April, 519 farmers have committed suicide.
Speaking to reporters, he informed that 519 applications were submitted seeking compensation for the suicide of farmers. Compensation was released in 310 cases. 92 applications were rejected and 117 applications are still under process.
“I wonder why these suicides have continued even after the announcement of the farm loan waiver scheme. I have directed the officers to reach out to the farmers and infuse confidence among them,” he said.
He also stated that the state government is committed to bringing a comprehensive policy to improve the farm sector revenue.
