Bengaluru: 400 Kannadigas have been rescued from quake-hit Nepal and 200 of them have returned to Bengaluru via Delhi according to sources within the teams of officials deployed by the Karnataka government.

Ritesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, Revenue Department, Disaster Management Cell, told press persons on Monday that they had underestimated the number of Kannadigas struck in Nepal.

“As many as 400 have been rescued and 200 have left for Bengaluru. Another 50 would leave New Delhi on Tuesday. Further as per preliminary assessment another 200- 300 will be reaching Banaras and 150-200 people will arrive at Gorahkpur by bus from Katmandu,” he said.

Singh said that two more teams of officials from Karnataka had been sent to Gorakhpur and Benares to help people coming by road.

“So far we cannot say totally how many people are stranded as the number is increasing by the day. The number of calls at our control rooms are increasing,” he said.
