28-year-old pourakarmika woman dies of COVID-19 in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A pourakarmika woman died in the city on Thursday, July 16 evening owing to a COVID-19 infection.

The deceased is identified as Shilpa (28), a mother of two children aged ten and eight years.

The woman is said have suffered from a fever for the past ten days. She was a resident of Chinnappa garden.

With this, the total deaths among pourakarmikas due to Covid-19 in the city has risen to three. Last week, two pourakarmikas from Gouripalya died from the disease.

Dalit organisations held a protest after news of Shilpa’s death spread. They alleged that the BBMP is not providing enough protective kits to the pourakarmikas.

They also alleged that several hospitals declined to admit Shilpa even though she had breathing difficulties.
