Bengaluru: As many as 17 apartment buildings near the Bellandur lake, having more than 50 flats, received notices from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) for not installing Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).

According to sources, the KSPCB issues notices based on the directions of the experts’ committee formed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The committee directed the Board to register criminal cases against the apartment owners for not adhering to the earlier directions.

The sources also informed that the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) is likely to take up the Bellandur lake rejuvenation work. “As many as 114 poor families are also staying in the buffer zone of the lake. The plan is to relocate them to a different place. The BDA is planning to provide them with alternative facilities,” explained an officer from the BDA.
