Bengaluru: A 16-year-old boy drowned in Chinnappanahalli lake in HAL police limits when he went for a swim along with his friends on Sunday afternoon.

The police have identified the deceased as Sunil, a resident of Chinnappanahalli. He was a student of Doddanekkundi Government High School, police sources said.

According to the police, Sunil and six of his friends had gone for a swim in the lake, said to be over 20 feet deep. The police said Sunil drowned as he was exhausted and could not swim back. His friends raised an alarm and a few passers-by tried to rescue him, but in vain.

The HAL police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel recovered the body after a five-hour search.
