Bengaluru: The State government has constituted a 10-member committee headed by Bengaluru Development Minister K J George to make arrangements for establishing Indira Canteens in all the 198 wards of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
The committee members include Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader, Mayor Padmavathi, principal secretary for Urban Development, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board chairman, the Bangalore Development Authority commissioner, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company MD, and Special Commissioner (Finance), BBMP. Deputy Secretary, Urban Development, will be the convener of the panel.
In the State Budget, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced the establishment of the canteens, where breakfast will be served at Rs. 5 a plate. Lunch and dinner will cost Rs. 10 each.
The minister announced that the canteens would start functioning from Independence Day.
