Bengaluru: Under the ‘Student Police Cadet’ project, a school level youth development initiative for Govt / Aided / BBMP high schools in Bengaluru city, a special programme was held at theTraffic Management Centre in the city on Saturday. SPC cadets visited Traffic Management Centre (TMC) and were taught about traffic awareness and were shown live videos of Traffic Signal lights.

The government of Karnataka has launched this Student Police Cadet project. It has nominated P Harishekaran, IPS additional commissioner of police (east) Bengaluru city as the Karnataka State Nodal Officer for the student cadet project for the state.
P Harishekaran, conducted a survey across the state by interacting with officials of various departments, public, police, school heads, students and their parents. Source materials were collected from field experts from various fields such as community policing, education, personality development, sports and information technology.
Study material for the physical training, drill, parade and outdoor and indoor manual was personally prepared by state nodal officer, SPC.
For the Student Police Cadets, the department had arranged the following programmes/field visits. The Vidhana Soudha visit on August 1, Jail visit on August 29 and High court visit in the month of September.
On 29 September, the department has arranged a jail visit for about 7 schools and around 322 Student Police Cadets, wherein they will be taught about ‘The Prisoners Act’ in brief and will be explained about the jail and then shown around the jail practically.
