Vijayapura: Taking a strong exception to the remark of BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal who has called Congress leader Sonia Gandhi ‘Vish Kanya’, KPCC Campaign Committee President M. B. Patil has said that except for spewing venom and spreading hatred, Yatnal has done nothing in the last five years of his tenures.

Addressing mediapersons on Saturday April 29 he said that the Congress and every leader of the party severely condemn the statement of Yatnal who has insulted Sonia Gandhi with his lewd and derogatory remarks.

“The only thing Yatnal did during this five year tenure as MLA was to verbally abuse people of different castes, communities, spread hatred, spew venom and insult leaders of different parties including his own party leaders,” he said.

Describing Sonia Gandhi as a woman who sacrificed the opportunity to become Prime Minister twice and made Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister, Patil said that Sonai Gandhi never lived for power. He said that if the people retrieve the records of hate speeches of Yatnal made in the last five years, it can be made into a big book.

“Yatnal has made derogatory remarks against V. Somanna, BJP leader B. S. Yediyurappa Former Chief Minister and his son Vijayendra. Similarly, he made anti-Constitutional and anti-Muslim remarks after becoming MLA,” he said.

Patil said that despite having the name of Basanagouda which is one of the names of 12th century social reformer, Basaveshwara, Yatnal has been acting completely against the principle of Basaveshwara.

“Basaveshwara preached social harmony, inclusiveness and brotherhood. But Yatnal is only insulting to Basaveshwara’s principles with his venomous statements against different communities,” Patil said.

Replying to the statement of Former Chief Minister, B. S. Yediyurppa who has accused Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar of backstabbing BJP only to join the Congress, Patil reminded Yediyurappa what he did to BJP in the past.

“It was Yediyurappa who first backstabbed the BJP and also stabbed in the chest by not only quitting the BJP but also floating his own party KJP, which caused the defeat of the BJP in the polls,” he recalled.

“I still have many things to talk about Yediyurappa, but will say that at an appropriate time”, he said.

When asked whether the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Karnataka, and Vijayaprua will make any impact on the political prospects of the Congress, Patil said that since the State leadership of BJP in Karnataka has collapsed, the party is depending on Modi to save BJP.

“Yet, Modi will not make any impact as people are unhappy with the Modi Government because of price rise, miss governance, unplanned demonetiyation etc. Modi’s popularity is shrinking because of all these factors,” Patil said.
