Vijayapura: After nearly two months of the district recording Covid cases in double digits in the second wave, the district registered zero cases of Covid on Monday which is a record of its sort.
Though for the last a few days, the district was registering cases only in single digit, now Monday turned out to be a good day when there is no single case of Covid and no death as well.
According to sources, in the past week, the district has registered only around 120 positive cases with a recovery rate of 97.92 %.
In the last two weeks 391 and 178 cases were reported in rural and urban areas respectively. In the last one week the district has recorded the same positivity rate that of the state with 2.75 percent.”
In mid-May the positivity rate was as high as 32.91 percent, wherein the second week a record 2,495 cases were reported. From the past one week, except on Saturday, the Covid-19 cases are being reported in single digit in the district with the overall testing positivity rate (TPR) stands at 0.72 percent, where the daily positivity rate stands at 0.42 percent.
Even though cases have come down, the district health authorities have increased the Covid sample testing capacity by at least 500 samples every day.
Thanks to the district administration for taking effective measures and steps to flatten the curve. When the cases were reported in large numbers in rural areas – the district administration in collaboration with zilla panchayat had launched a door-to-door survey, which helped to identify nearly 4,000 symptomatic persons and over 1,500 Covid cases.
Apart from this, the distribution of medical kits to the symptomatic people, opening Covid Care Centers, improving the health infrastructure, pacing up the vaccination drive, and other measures have been taken by the district authorities.
DC P Sunil Kumar said that “It is teamwork. This is not a big achievement but has relieved the health professionals and district authorities to some extent. The door-to-door survey is also being continued to identify the symptomatic people in rural areas. We have increased the testing capacity on the orders of the state government but the cases have remained low. We are working on bettering the health infrastructure for the second wave.”
According to the district health bulletin on Sunday, “As many as eight new Covid-19 cases have been reported, taking the total tally to 35,966 cases. Of the total cases 35,292 have been recovered, 202 patients are active, 23 are in hospital and only one patient is in Covid Care Center, and 472 people have succumbed to the contagious virus.”
